Frequently Asked Questions
-
Do you teach adults or kids?
Both! We welcome all artists ages 10 and up at the Moon.
(If your child has been a student of Sarah’s in the past, younger than 10 is okay!)
We are able to accommodate younger artists for mobile art experiences and birthday parties.
You can learn a little more about our teaching philosophy here.
-
What are your hours?
Weekly classes and experiences can be booked Tuesday-Thursday, between 10am-2pm.
Birthday parties can be booked on Saturdays or Sundays.
We have flexibility in scheduling mobile art experiences with the exception of Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Reach out to coordinate a date and time that works for you!

Where is Studio Moon?
Studio Moon is a micro studio located in our home. We converted our garage into a working studio when Sarah started to get serious about ceramics. It has heat and A/C and is comfortable year round!
We are located in South Austin, near Slaughter Lane and Menchaca Road. We provide the exact address upon booking.
-
How do I schedule a class or party?
Since we are a wee little business, the best way to schedule your class is to contact us! Reach out through this site or directly at sistermoonceramics@gmail.com
Space on our schedule is limited, so consider booking ahead!
-
What pottery equipment and supplies does your studio have?
Our micro studio has a Brent EX wheel, a Bailey tabletop slab roller and a Skutt 822 kiln. We use a mix of brush-on glazes from Amaco, Mayco and Coyote and offer Armadillo Clay dipping glazes in clear and white. We also have a house made white stoneware slip available.
We have various tools from some Diamond Core carving tools to GR pottery forms, as well as a handheld extruder and a variety of fun items from Garrity Tools. We also have a Giffin Grip for trimming, as well as a Footer from Wallace Pottery.
-
What cone do you fire to?
We use mid-fire clay during weekly classes and ceramics experiences, firing to cone 5. We use Armadillo Clay Cinco Blanco and Cinco Rojo. (Sarah fires most of her work to cone 6 so that is also an option!)
We also occasionally run luster firings (cone 018 and cone 020).
For mobile experiences with kids, as well as ceramics birthday parties, we use low fire clay (Armadillo Longhorn White) and fire to cone 04.
-
Do you offer memberships?
Not at this time. We’ve opted to focus on community experiences and private/semi-private instruction rather than renting out our studio space.
We can lovingly refer ATX Kiln Club as an option for studio space in the area. (MH and Sarah are sisters!)
-
Do you offer firing services?
Not at this time. We can refer the fabulous ATX Kiln Club for a local option for firing your work not made at Studio Moon.
-
Hey, wait a minute - is Sarah still a ceramicist?
Yep! Sarah is still making her own art - her work can be found at Sister Moon Ceramics and can be seen at the Moon when you swing by. :-)
